The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has recently approved the development of a 2.1 km-long 200 feet wide road. The construction of an iconic road is to exhibit Surat’s onward march toward prosperity and development, standing committee chairman Anil Goplani said.
The project will be taken up on a public–private partnership (PPP) basis with Rajhans Infra Projects Private Ltd spending Rs12 crore, and SMC Rs 4.5 crore. The 2.1 km road will also have a jogging track and a cycling track along side it.
“This will be Surat’s most beautiful road. SMC is saving lot of money and yet would ensure a world class modern road for its citizens. The road will show a way for future development in the city. This will be first project that will be mainly developed by a private party,” Goplani added.
The road which will start from ONGC Circle on Surat-Dumas Road and stretch to Surat airport will consist of theme-based landscaping, fountains, murals, junctions, decorative lighting, decorative bus stops and parking spaces. SMC expects the project to be completed within a year’s time.
